Duval, Galla, Birrell, Jacobson earn All-TCCC Honors

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's soccer team placed four student-athletes on the 2009 The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) All-Conference teams as senior Jen Duval (Dudley, Mass.), sophomores Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn .) and Kelsey Jacobson (Albany, N.Y.), and freshman Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) were honored for their 2009 athletic accomplishments.

 

Birrell and Galla were each named to the All-TCCC Second Team after spending much of the 2009 season in the top five in scoring in the conference. Birrell leads the Seahawks with 14 goals, 11 assists and 39 points, and has netted a pair of game-winning goals (Sept. 1 - WPI; Sept. 21 - Anna Maria). Galla is second on the team in both goals (13) and points (30) heading into Saturday's TCCC Quarterfinal match at Gordon at 1 p.m. She has potted seven game-winning goals (Sept. 8 - UMass Dartmouth; Sept. 12 - New England College; Sept. 19 - Regis; Sept. 23 - Roger Williams; Sept. 25 - Nichols; Oct. 10 - Curry; Oct. 17 - Colby-Sawyer).

 

Jacobson was the third Seahawk to earn Second Team honors as she anchored the defense which allowed an average of 1.97 goals against. Duval, meanwhile, was an All-TCCC Honorable Mention. She ranks third on the team with seven goals and 19 points.

 

Caitlin Flynn of Endicott was named Player of the Year while Samantha Abro of Nichols earned Rookie of the Year honors. Ali Trafton of the University of New England was the conference's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jodi Kenyon of Endicott was Coach of the Year, and Anna Maria College received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
