Kaitlyn Birrell selected as All-New England women's soccer player

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshman forward Kaitlyn Birrell's [Hope, R.I.] record-setting first year of collegiate soccer has resulted in a selection to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association all-star team.Kaitlyn Birrell

 

Birrell had been named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference all-league second team after spending much of the 2009 season in the top five in scoring in the conference. Birrell led the Seahawks with 15 goals, 11 assists and 41 points, establishing school records for the latter two categories and equaling Kerrin D'Agnelli's '05 goal mark set in 2003.

 

Currently playing guard for the Seahawk women's basketball team, she netted a pair of game-winning goals (Sep. 1 - WPI; Sep. 21 - Anna Maria) as the Seahawks equaled their program record in victories (11) set in 2004.

 

Birrell joins former Seahawk defender Breanne Carello '07 as the only Salve Regina individuals to earn the NEWISA honor. Carello was a two-time selection in 2005-06.
