Woman's Lacrosse Pre-season Outlook

Woman's Lacrosse Pre-season Outlook

The Salve Regina women's lacrosse team will look to carry their 2022 success into this season under the care of first-year head coach Jessica Trautman. Trautman inherits a team that finished with a 9-5 overall record year, including a 5-3 mark in CCC play and a trip to the conference semifinals. The Seahawks will be looking to their young roster to make up for the loss of leading scorer and All-CCC First Teamer Nicole Smith to graduation. Included in that group are sophomores Samantha Moleti (Township of Washington, N.J.) and Emma Periera (Easton, Mass.) who finished second and third on the team, respectively, in both goals scored and points in 2022. Moleti contributed 22 tallies and 28 points, while Periera found the back of the net 15 times and racked up 23 points.

Moleti is also one of Salve's top defensive returners as she led the team in caused turnovers (18) last year, while finishing third on the team in ground balls (23) and third in draw controls (25). The Seahawks also return 2022 CCC Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-CCC member Grace Haesche (Warwick, N.Y.) in goal. Haesche was great in goal in her first-year campaign, earning nine wins in 13 starts and posting a league-best 52.0 save percentage.

First draw on the Salve Regina schedule is on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as the team travels to Coast Guard at 6 p.m. for non-conference action. The Seahawks have their home opener on Saturday, March 4 against Simmons and will begin CCC play on Wednesday, March 29 with a trip to Nichols at 4 p.m.
