Curry drops Salve Regina 6-1

MILTON, Mass. (Friday, February 2, 2024)--The Curry College women's ice hockey team denied Salve Regina 6-1 after getting off the first three goals of the evening in the CCC contest. 

The Curry Colonels held the seventh annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Canton Ice House. Proceeds from the game went towards The Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Colonels and Seahawks took the time to honor head coach David Lun's daughter, Emi Lun, who is resiliently fighting stage IV, high risk neuroblastoma.

Last Contest: On Sunday, December 03, 2023, the Seahawks beat the Colonels 4-0. During the 2022-23 season Salve Regina went 3-0 against Curry. 

BREAKDOWN: 

The Colonels got out to an early lead after Hannah Berkowitz, Margot Oxman, and Anna Kahl swooped in for goals. Berkowitz's goal came just 1:50 into the evening. However, the Seahawks fought back at the start of the second period. With 4:51 gone in period two Taylor Stirling made a long shot attempt from beyond the right faceoff circle. The puck bounced off Curry's Soleil Archambeault and Riley Esposito tipped it in on the left side for a Seahawk goal. Salve Regina's efforts were once again countered with Danielle Reid secured a Colonel goal at under five minutes to go in the second period for a 4-1 game. 

Tommi Nash and Anna Kahl secured the deal after scoring at 0:37 and 6:37 respectively. The game came to a close 6-1 in favor of the hosting Curry Colonels. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Both the Seahawks and the Colonels took 27 shots on goal during the game.
  • The Seahawks went 0-3 and the Colonels went 2-4 on the power play.
  • Salve Regina served eight minutes on four infractions and Curry sent a skater to the penalty box for six minutes, resulting from three infractions. 

ON THE HORIZON: 

Tomorrow the Seahawks will be back at the Cabot-Harman Ice center for a CCC matchup against Western New England University at 7 p.m.
