SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Success!

Success!

The Salve Regina Women's Ice Hockey Team battled Endicott College this past weekend in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. On Friday, the teams played in Beverly, MA. Endicott triumphed the Seahawks, with three third period goals, to finish with a 4 – 2 win. Senior Forward, Emma Gotthelf (West Hartford, CT) led the Seahawks in the game with two goals. The first at 3:18 of the first period. The second at 7:14 of the second period. Both goals gave the Seahawks the lead at the time. Junior Goalie, Ellee Kopecky (Warren, RI) held the fort down in the goal making 47 saves. Ultimately the Gulls were too much to contain, and Endicott was able to overcome their deficits to defeat Salve 4-2.
On Saturday the teams competed again, Middletown, RI and for the second straight night would see the home team victorious! Salve Regina took down Endicott with a 3 -2 over-time win. Giving the Salve Regina University Women's Hockey Program their first victory against the Gulls in CCC history! Freshman goalie, Sydney Baxter (Exeter, RI) would supply 38 saves in the win. Freshman forward, Riley Esposito (Enfield, CT) would help supply the ammunition with two power-play goals. The first at 8:48 of the third period to tie the game. The second at 0:30 of over-time to propel the Seahawks with their historic first win.
Sophomore defensemen, Emma Pereira (Easton, MA) would also be a huge factor in the Seahawks success over the weekend, recognized as the CCC Player of the week. Having a major influence at both ends of the ice, Periera started the weekend off with an assist in the road loss to Endicott. Saturday's contest would see her double that success. Netting the first goal go-ahead goal of the night, and assisting on the (Riley Esposito) over-time clincher.
On the horizon, the Seahawks will travel to Burrillville, RI on Friday January 27th to play the Nichols College Bison in a home & home CCC, conference series. A big weekend that sees playoff aspirations on the line!
