MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team scored three times in the opening period and held on for a 3-2 victory over Salve Regina University at St. George's Ice Rink on Tuesday night. The win improves the Bantams to 11-7-0 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 9-6-4.

The Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead when junior Samantha Zitzer (River Forest, Ill.) knocked home her own rebound just 3:06 into the opening frame.

However, the Bantams then responded with three unanswered goals to close out the period with a 3-1 advantage.  Trinity senior Celia Colman-McGraw (Manchester, Conn.) tied the game just 29 seconds after the Seahawks had taken the lead, while sophomore Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) put the Bantams in front at the 8:11 mark off a feed from senior Dominique Di Dia (Los Angeles, Calif.). Colman-McGraw then capped the scoring outburst by intercepting the puck in front of the Salve Regina net and slapping the puck into the back of the net for what turned out to be the game-winning score.

The Seahawks came out with a lot of energy in the second period, outshooting the Bantams by an 11-5 margin during the frame, but neither team was able to score.

Salve Regina continued to apply the pressure in the third period, getting back to within one goal when junior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.) scored on a break away with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation to cut the Trinity lead to 3-2.

The Seahawks received a power play opportunity at the 13:15 mark of the final period, but were unable to convert, as the Bantams held on for the 3-2 victory.

Sophomore Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) made a game-high 25 saves in net for the Bantams, improving to 2-3-0 on the year, while senior Rebecca Simmons (Averill Park, N.Y.) fell to 6-5-2 in between the pipes for Salve Regina.

Both teams return to action this Friday, facing conference opponents on the road. The Bantams travel to play Bowdoin at 7 p.m., while the Seahawks hit the road to battle UMass Boston starting at 4 p.m.
