Sacred Heart defeats Seahawks, 3-0

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Sophomore netminder Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, Alberta) stopped 26 shots to earn the first shutout of her career, in a 5-0 victory over Salve Regina. The win improved the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team to 7-16-1, while the Seahawks dropped to 12-7-3.

 

After a scoreless first period the Pioneers came out and got three in the second. Junior forward Kristina Hankins (Lexington, Mass.) netted the first goal, assisted by sophomore linemate Tara Kent (Glenview Ill.) and Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, Conn.). Junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, Ontario) led the way for the Pioneers with a pair of goals.

 

Sophomore Lauren Towers (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Megan Murphy (Holden, Mass.) also notched goals for the Red & White. Palazzo finished the game with three assists. She leads the team with 17 on the season.

 

Freshman goaltender Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) made 36 saves for Salve Regina. The Pioneers outshot the Seahawks 41-26.
