Seahawks edge Pilgrims, 4-3

Henniker, N.H. - The New England College Pilgrims fell to the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina University 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Lee Clement Arena. With the loss, the Pilgrims see their record fall to 5-9-1 overall and 4-5-0 in the ECAC East, while the Seahawks better their record to 8-2-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the conference.

The Seahawks would waste no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Molly Golden (Milton, Mass.) notched her seventh goal of the season seven seconds into the opening frame. Freshman Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Kristen Aiello (Braintree, Mass.) assisted on the goal. The Seahawks would strike again in the first period at the 16:52 mark as freshman Melanie Sherlock (Colorado Springs, Colo.) connected on a pass from Porter to give Salve Regina the 2-0 advantage.

NEC would answer with just over a minute elapsed in the second period as Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) connected on the power play opportunity on assists by Courtney Kerslake (Sarnia, Ontario) and Chelsie Boroski (Sterling Heights, Mich.). The Pilgrims would even the game at 2-2 five minutes into the third period on a goal by Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.), assisted by Alyssa Hoot (Waterville, Ohio) and Kate Kellar (Pittsfield, Mass.).

Salve Regina would reclaim the lead a minute later on a goal by junior Danika Williams (Fairbanks, Alaska), assisted by Porter. The Seahawks would strike again at the 16:10 mark, as Shannon Ellis notched the game-winning goal on an assist from junior Kendra Andrie (Muskegon, Mich.).

The Pilgrims would bring the game within one when Katie Palasz (Granby, Mass.) was awarded a penalty shot at the 19:44 mark. The Pilgrims would be unable to score again, and the Seahawks would claim the 4-3 victory.

Playing in the net for the Pilgrims was Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) who finished with 25 saves. Earning the win for the Seahawks was freshman Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.), who recorded 18 saves.

NEC will be back in action on Friday, January 15, traveling to Manhattanville College for a 7:00 p.m. ECAC East matchup. The Seahawks will return to action on Tuesday, January 12 as they travel to Connecticut College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
