Seahawks sweep pair in final day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - Salve Regina University softball and Suffolk University exchanged the lead five times on Friday, but the Seahawks ended up on top with a 4-2 win in seven innings over Suffolk. Coupled with the Seahawks' 3-2 win over Keene State University earlier in the day, Salve Regina pulls its overall record to .500 (5-5) on the season.

Salve Regina pulled out the win thanks to a strong fourth inning. The Seahawks scored on an RBI single by Marissa Simpson (Brimfield, Mass.) off Sarah Chasse, bringing home Britani Dunbar (Swampscott, Mass.).

Simpson racked up two RBIs on three hits for Salve Regina.

Salve Regina relied on Jen Cruver (North Haven, Conn.) to eat up innings en route to the win. Cruver pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out three. 

The top of the first saw Suffolk take an early lead, 1-0. Nicole Rosa started the rally for Suffolk with a single. A passed ball then moved Rosa from first to second. Erin McAndrews doubled, scoring Rosa.

The Seahawks scored one run of its own in the first. Salve Regina University Seahawks scored on an RBI single by Simpson.
