NEWPORT, R.I. – Junior Patrick Voli (Bloomingdale, N.J.) and senior Jake Simpson (Hingham, Mass.) have been appointed captains of the men's cross country team at Salve Regina.

Voli was the team's top runner for much of the 2021 season, which also served as his debut in collegiate cross country. He represented Salve Regina in six meets, including the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship. For his leadership on the course and in the community, he was named the program's Runner of the Year.

Simpson was sidelined with injuries for most of last year, but still managed a couple of appearances for the Seahawks. Even when he was not in the lineup, he supported his teammates and added valuable perspective as the only harrier on the roster with prior collegiate racing experience. Simpson has represented Salve Regina in eight meets over two seasons, including an NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship.

"Jake and Patrick have established themselves as team leaders, on and off the course. They lead by example in practice and expect accountability from their peers," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "They've also represented the team during service projects. I appreciate what they do for our program, and I am proud to have them as captains."

The Seahawks open the 2022 season with a meet against Gordon and Endicott on Sept. 1.
