Jutras paces Seahawks at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 12, 2019) - Senior Brett Jutras (East Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a personal-best at 8,000 meters to lead Salve Regina in the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State University on Saturday.

Jutras took advantage of the fast opening miles on the grass at Stanley Park, splitting the first mile at 5:17 and reaching the second at 10:58. He held his position in the trails and cruised in the final stretch, crossing the finish line at 28:12.

Junior captain Aidan Lynch (Little Silver, N.J.) was again the second man for the Seahawks, finishing at 29:20. Senior captain Chandler Da Cruz (Middletown, R.I.) and classmates Tanner Owens (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Riley Rancourt (Warren, R.I.) completed the scoring for Salve Regina. The meet marked the Seahawks' fastest aggregate time and best five-man average of the season.

Trinity College senior Weyessa McAlister won the individual title, crossing the finish line at 25:42 and leading a perfect 15-point finish for the Bantams. Westfield State finished second with 106 points. Springfield was third with 133. Salve Regina was 21st of 28 in team scoring with a score of 554.

The Seahawks return to action in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on Nov. 2.
