Seahawks improve by 15 spots over 2012

BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led Salve Regina to its highest finish in the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championship on Saturday. The Seahawks were 23rd of 46 scoring teams, improving 15 spots over their 2012 placement in the ECAC meet. 

Hughes passed dozens of runners in the closing miles of the 8K course at Colt State Park, crossing the finish line at 27:12.95. The sophomore finished 51st out of 327 runners to lead the scoring effort. Hughes also finished 51st in the ECAC meet last year. 

Freshman Billy Martin (West Islip, N.Y.) was the Seahawks' second man, placing in the top half of the field at 28:39.99.  Freshmen Anthony Tandy (Hopedale, Mass) and Tyler Torelli (Ledyard, Conn.) and sophomore Slater Roosa (Woodbury, Conn.), rounded out the scoring at 29:12.04, 29:22.70 and 29:48.64 respectively. 

Freshmen Jay Brennan (North Haven, Conn.) and Daniel Regan (Westford, Mass.) were the Seahawks' sixth and seventh runners, finishing at 30:08.61 and 30:10.45. 

Runners from Williams College finished 1-2-3, and all five scorers were inside the top 15, on their way to winning the team title with a score of 26. Tufts (75) placed second and Amherst (84) was third. Cole Townsend of Williams was the individual champion, crossing the finish line at 25:43.08. 

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship at the Narragansett School in Gorham, Maine.
