NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) has once again been honored as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. This marks the fifth time that Hughes has won the award, while the freshman has also added two CCC Runner of the Week awards.

Hughes had a terrific showing at the Golden Bear Invitational this past Saturday, finishing eighth overall in a field of 204 runners. The Salve Regina freshman finished the 8,000-meter course in 26:51, leading the Seahawks to a 16th place finish, beating out five other programs.

The freshman standout has placed as Salve Regina's top finisher in all seven races in which they have competed this season.

Hughes continues his outstanding rookie campaign this Friday when he leads the Seahawks into the CCSU Mini-Meet at Central Conn. St.
