Kieran Hughes - NEWMAC Face-Off Specialist of the Week // Mar. 25-31

WESTWOOD, Mass. (Monday, March 18, 2024) – Kieran Hughes (Oradell, N.J.) from Salve Regina men's lacrosse is honored as Face-Off Specialist of the Week by the NEWMAC for the second time this season. 

On March 26, Hughes won 20 of 32 faceoffs with 15 ground balls against the UMass Boston Beacons in a 17-15 loss. Three days later against Emerson College he went 21-27 on faceoffs secured 17 ground balls to advance Salve Regina ahead of Emerson 13-12 in overtime. The graduate FOGO combined to win 41 of 59 faceoffs (.694) with 32 ground balls last week.

"It's tremendous to see Mr. Hughes recognized a second time as the NEWMAC Face-Off Specialist of the Week," remarked head coach Patrick Cooney. "Kieran would be the first to thank his teammates and family for their love and support."

Hughes also earned the accolade for the week ending in March 3, 2024, after he led the Seahawks to their first win of the season against Kean University. This year he is 131-210 on faceoffs and has nabbed 84 ground balls.
