MILTON, Mass. (Saturday, February 3, 2024)-- The Salve Regina men's ice hockey team was unable to get on the board against the current top ranked CCC team, Curry College, for a 4-0 finish in day two of the home-and-home series.

BREAKDOWN:

The game started out with a similar speed to yesterday's contest, which was 0-0 after the first period. However today with three minutes remaining in the first period, Curry's Ryan Prewitt dodged Seahawk defensemen and found the back of the net from just in front of the crease. Despite two Seahawk penalties and three power play opportunities nothing happened until four minutes remaining in period two. In an attempt to skate the puck out of Curry's zone the Seahawks brought the puck to center ice, but the Colonels got ahold of it and on a rebound, Gage Dill made it a 2-0 game for Curry at 15:56 into the second period.

Despite Salve Regina's effort to protect the net in the final 20 minutes of play, Ryan Prewitt slid in front of the Seahawks net and poked it in for the Colonels' third goal of the afternoon at 8:34 into period three. With eight minutes remaining Salve Regina almost got on the board when Matthew Fawcett and Parker Mabbett attempted a series of shots with the puck loose in front of Curry's net, but the puck never made it in. A few minutes later Selby Warren left the ice to give Salve Regina an extra skater but Curry's Alex Duncan sunk an empty-netter even though Logan Calder raced to protect the net. The clock ticked down and the CCC game came to a 4-0 end.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Shane Soderwall returned to Curry's net as the starting goalie for the second day in a row.
  • Selby Warren started in goal for Salve Regina. Warren made 28 saves.
  • After 40 minutes of action the Colonels outshot the Seahawks 22-19, the Seahawks had won 23 to the Colonels 15 faceoffs and Salve Regina blocked nine shots while Curry blocked six.
