All-Time Series: Going into the evening Salve Regina was 0-8 against Bowdoin and tonight's victory makes that 1-8. The last time the two teams met was in 2014.

BREAKDOWN:

  • Period I: Cayden Bailey and Polar Bears' Alex Kozic began the day in their teams respective nets and Salve Regina won the opening faceoff to get the day going. Although Bowdoin outshot Salve Regina 11-10 in the first period, thanks to Seahawk defense, the Polar Bears missed out on several loose puck opportunities. Salve Regina beat Bowdoin in the circle 7-4 in the opening 20 minutes of competition. With 6:29 gone the Polar Bears were called on a hooking infraction and the Seahawks managed to fire off two shots in the interim, but the power play expired scoreless. The score remained 0-0 with 20 minutes complete.
  • Period II: The first scoring action came when Richard Davis found the back of the net on a wrist shot. Two minutes into the period the Seahawks were sent to the penalty box for interference but 30 seconds later Jonathan Hammel (from Joel Shoemaker) swooped in giving Salve Regina their fifth shorthanded goal of the season. The score moved to 1-1, but not for long. Just over one minute later from right in front of the crease, Richard Davis poked it in for a 2-1 score. Once the Seahawks penalty kill ended, the team regrouped and Matthew Fawcett received the puck from Garrett Szeremley on the right wing and sank a goal, bringing it back to a tie. The action slowed down for about ten minutes, Bailey and Kozic leaping out of the net several times to make necessary saves. Parker Mabbett broke the stalemate with 16:28 down off an assist from Dylan Price. The Seahawks found themselves in a five on three situation after two Bowdoin skaters were sent to the penalty box for tripping and hooking, yet the clocked ticked to zero remaining 3-2 with the power place carrying over to the final period.
  • Period III: For his second shorthanded goal of the season Logan Calder made it 4-2 off a backhand pass from Joseph Kile at the top of the zone. Matthew Fawcett is credited with the second assist. Shortly after, through the pads of Kozic, Ian Tookenay (from Matthew Brunton) scored his second goal of the season from the far side faceoff circle. Bowdoin fought back when Luke Wheeler brought it up the ice on the right side, snapping his fifth goal of the season, to bring the came to a closer 5-3 score, with the Seahawks still on top. With just under ten minutes left to play the Polar Bears were called for too many players on the ice, a bench minor penalty, which gave the Seahawks yet another power play opportunity. Beginning at 15:58 Bowdoin pulled Kozic from the net for a 6 on 5 situation. Johnny Mulera wasted no time with an empty-netter (from  Logan Calder and Matthew Fawcett) to make it 6-3. With the net still empty Joseph Kile scored his third goal of the year from just over the blue line. When the buzzer sounded Salve Regina was on top 7-3.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Bowdoin outshot Salve Regina 41-35.
  • Each team scored once on the power play and the Seahawks were able to capitalize once on the penalty kill.
  • The Seahawks blocked ten shots and the Polar Bears blocked five.
