MIDDLETOWN, R.I.-- Salve Regina defeated Suffolk 5-2 in the first home game and CCC matchup of the season. The evening saw seven different goal scorers amongst the two teams.

The Rams were successful early in the game after Cole Scott brought the score to 1-0 in favor of Suffolk off an assist from Daniel McKiernan. However, less than 30 seconds later, Logan Calder answered the Rams charge with a Seahawk goal of his own. Nick Liotino finished out the scoring for the first period, making it 2-1. Liotino's was assited by Carter Schram and Devin Lowe.

Going into the remainder of the game Salve Regina needed to change the pace of Suffolk's skating in order to slow the Rams down and find the net. The Seahawks did just that by scoring three goals during the second period. Garrett Szeremley started it off, assisted by Walter Baumann and Damon Zimmer. Karsten Kruska made the game winning goal at 14:39 into the action. Kruska was assisted by Damon Zimmer. With 90 seconds left in period Johnny Mulera added to the total, off the stick of Joseph Kile and Matthew Brunton, bringing the score to 4-2 with Salve Regina on top.

The swiftness from both sides kept up during the third period, but Matthew Fawcett ended the day with a goal 2:25 into play. Fawcett was assisted by Hoon Kim and Johnny Mulera

POSTGAME THOUGHTS FROM COACH KLANN ON X:

"We're feeling confident with the win. We struggled in the first period finding out that conference play is a lot different than out of conference. There's a lot of rivalries. We got through that first period, killed some penalties, came out with more momentum in the second and played to our ability in the third. For us we need to get the rest that we need for tomorrow and make sure that we can build off our success and not come out flat.

Historically we've had a very good conference. Last year we had four teams in the top ten and I think we're going to have that same thing this year. It's going to be a dog fight right to the end, so these points count. Every night you're battling for your livelihood, so we need to stay focused. We need to think about the next game and not look too far ahead. Everybody that we play in the CCC can beat you on any given night, so we have to make sure we're focused."

ON THE HORIZON:

The Seahawks go up against the Rams again tomorrow, October 4 in Boston, Massachusetts at 7:00 p.m.
