Seahawks duplicate dominant halves for win over Beavers, 68-38

NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, January 16, 2024) -- The Salve Regina University men's basketball team took advantage of cold shooting from the visiting Beavers of Babson College and dominated in a 68-38 NEWMAC victory at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

James Jolly (Kingston, England) scored all of his 16 points in the second half on 6-of-9 from the floor and four free throws as the Seahawks (10-6, 4-3 NEWMAC) and Beavers (7-9, 3-4 NEWMAC) posted identical halves on the scoreboard ... 34-19 and 34-19. Declan Walmsley (Franklin, Mass.) made 6-of-12 from the floor with one trey and an old-fashioned three-point play to finish with 14 points. Jojo Powers (Dedham, Mass.) powered nine boards, all on the defensive glass.

SUMMARY:

• 1H - The Seahawks had an 11-1 lead in the first five minutes. Clay Brochu had a driving layup for the first basket. Jeremiah Paul sank one of two free throws to get the Beavers on the board. Declan Walmsley banked in a short jumper after pulling up on a drive. Jojo Powers hit the first of three 3-pointers for the Seahawks and then had a pair of free throws for a 9-1 lead. Powers converted a turnover into a layup before Nate Amado recorded the first field goal for Babson and added one from the charity stripe for an old-fashioned three-point play. Amado finished with 11 points in the first half while Powers topped the Seahawks with 10 points and five rebounds. Babson missed all 16 of its three-point attempts. | Seahawks 34, Beavers 19
• 2H - The Beavers missed all 11 of their three-point attempts to finish the game 0-for-27 (0.0%) from behind the arc. Nate Amado and Jojo Powers exhanged baskets to start the second half. James Jolly had his first points of the game on a layup after a Beaver turnover at the 18:02 mark. Jolly's layup at 6:02 pushed Salve Regina ahead by 21 (54-33). Brady Spencer made an uncontested layup with an assist from Vinny Ferrari for the final margin. • Salve Regina outrebounded Babson, 45 to 39, and were led by Jojo Powers who hauled in nine defensive caroms.
