Foster tabs Brochu, Jolly, Walmsley to captain 2023-24 Seahawk squad

Clay Brochu, James Jolly, Declan Walmsley named captains for Salve Regina men's basketball in 2023-24.

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's basketball head coach Sean Foster '97 announces a senior and two juniors as his squad's captains for the 2023-24 campaign. Clay Brochu (North Kingstown, R.I.), James Jolly (Kingston, England), Declan Walmsley (Franklin, Mass.).

"Our staff is excited to have such dynamic leadership going into the 2023-24 season," says Foster, in his 22nd year as Seahawk head coach. "Clay, Declan, and James are tremendous people, excellent students and extremely hard-working athletes. Their positive example and eagerness to lead by serving embodies our team culture and will be extremely beneficial to our younger players."

All three have two full seasons on the court as Brochu's freshman campaign was canceled due to COVID-19, while the trio contributed to a march to the finals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship in 2021-22.. Brochu has averaged over 10 points per game over the first 50+ games of his college career. Jolly played in 24 games last season and started 22. Walmsley has started all but one game in his first two seasons while ranking second in scoring on the team last year (11.1 points per game) behind the program's all-time leading scorer, Mikey Spencer.

The Seahawks will look to find the 22.2 points per game that Spencer provided among a host of players in 2023-24. Salve Regina opens its season at home against Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, November 11 (1 p.m.).
