MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Salve Regina field hockey defeated UMass Dartmouth 6-0 Thursday night in the second shutout of the 2023 season. The Seahawks now have a 2-0 record after an 11-0 triump over Regis College on opening day.

SUMMARY:
- With anticipation building during the first ten minutes of the game the Seahawks emerged on top after Hana Bevilacqua scored the first Seahawk goal of the day at 13:56 down in the first period.
- Bella Gannon and Hana Bevilacqua both scored in the second period, giving Salve Regina a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
- Early in the third period Julia Decker earned Salve Regina's fourth goal of the night assisted by Shannon Kennedy.
- Georgia Costello scored four minutes into the third period also assisted by Shannon Kennedy.
- Jordyn Pineau provided the final goal of the night during the third period and increased the Seahawk lead to 6-0.
- Neither team scored during the fourth period.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Hana Bevilacqua, Bella Gannon and Georgia Costello scored their first goals of the 2023 season.
- Julia Decker achieved her third goal of the season.
- Jordyn Pineau earned her second goal of the season.

"We continue to focus on our style of play and growing as a unit," said head coach Jennifer Foster. "Our offense came alive in our last game and we hoped to capitalize on that strength tonight."
THOUGHTS ON OUTCOME:
"We continue to put the pieces of our game together," said Foster. "Our forward and midfield lines did a good job supporting each other to keep the offensive pressure up. We were also impressed with our defense's patience in stopping UMass's transition."
