BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals over the No. 5 seeded Salve Regina Seahawks, 3-0.

Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) made three saves in the match, as the Hawks dictated play, with 14 shots, placing nine of them on net.  The Seahawks' goalkeeper Casey Febus (Soudertown, Pa.) made six saves in the tilt.  Both teams had eight corner opportunities with the Hawks having five attempts in the opening frame.

The Hawks struck for the first time at the 6:38 mark of the first half, when Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) received a corner opportunity from Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) that Carney then passed back, as King fired her shot into the back of the net.

Just under four minutes later the Hawks scored off another penalty corner opportunity when King inserted the ball to Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.), and Stevens rocketed a shot past Febus for a 2-0 lead. With 1:20 remaining in the first quarter Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) crossed the ball to Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) who turned and fired a shot into the back of the net to take a 3-0 lead.

Salve Regina earned six corners to the Hawks three throughout the rest of the contest, but the Hawk defense held the Seahawks out of the cage, holding on for the 3-0 shutout victory.

No. 4 Roger Williams (12-7, 3-3 CCC) will now travel to No. 1 University of New England for a CCC Semifinal contest on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 pm.
