Seahawks win season opener over Lyons

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team scored twice in the first and fourth quarters to defeat visiting Wheaton College 4-1 in non-conference action Thursday evening.

  • Ashley Harvey (Newmarket, N.H.) scored her first collegiate goal, and the first of the season for Salve Regina, to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead at 11:48.
  • Hana Bevilacqua followed that up with her first career goal for a 2-0 Seahawks edge through one quarter.
  • Neither team scored in the second quarter.
  • Macey Poitras-Cote cut into the Seahawks lead with her first of the year at 32:52.
  • The Seahawks scored twice in the fourth quarter; freshman Georgia Costello (North Easton, Mass.) notched her first career goal and Shannon Kennedy put a bow on things for the Seahawks at 52:43 for the final margin.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Casey Febus (Soudertown, Pa.) made four saves to improve to 1-0 between the pipes.
  • Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) stopped 10 shots in the losing effort to fall to 0-1.
  • Salve Regina outshot the Lyons 21-5.
  • The Seahawks held a 11-6 edge in corners.
