Nor'easters blank Seahawks on Senior Day

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (October 26, 2019) - Salve Regina University field hockey celebrated its five seniors -- Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), Hannah Filiault (Keene, N.H.), Vanessa Frost (Attleboro, Mass.), Natalie Reid (South Dennis, Mass.), and Olivia St. Jean (Goffstown, N.H.) -- before falling 4-0 to visiting University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gaudet Field. The Nor'easters (10-8, 9-2 CCC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference postseason and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 7. The Seahawks (10-6, 5-5 CCC) may be the semifinal opponent of they hold onto their current third place status.

After a scoreless first quarter, sophomore Julia Steeves (Skowhegan, Maine) netted goals in the second and third quarters to build a 2-0 advantage heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, UNE doubled its advantage with goals from sophomore Jillian Lachapelle (Gilford, N.H.) and junior Reanna Boulay (Liberty, Maine).

The Nor'easters blanked the league's top scoring team (Salve Regina and Endicott were tied with 59 goals apiece entering today, while the Seahawks had a 39-37 edge in assists over the Gulls).

Liz Sargent (South Burlington, Vt.) had two saves in the shutout for the Nor'easters and Casey Febus (Souderton, Pa.) stopped three shots for the Seahawks; both have been the goalkeeper of record for all of their team's respective games.

Salve Regina plays its final two regular season games on the road at Nichols (Oct. 30) and Roger Williams (Nov. 2). University of New England returns to its home field to host No. 7 in the nation Williams College tomorrow.
