SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Bison beat Seahawks, 2-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Despite being out-cornered 22 to 13, Nichols College field hockey gained a bit of revenge when it defeated Salve Regina University, 2-0, amid rainfall in Newport during The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.

Sophomore forward Lauren Correia [Seekonk, Mass.] scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty corner opportunity seven minutes into the game. Her twin sister, Chelsea Correia [Seekonk, Mass.], made it a 2-0 advantage for the visitors just before the half.

The Bison, who were upset on penalty strokes by the Seahawks in last year's TCCC quarterfinal, have won the last three regular-season meetings between the two schools.

"Our offense has suddenly become less aggressive," said Seahawk head coach Jennifer Eldridge. "If we out-corner the opponent by that much, we should be putting the ball in the goal. Just like the last game (a 2-1 OT loss to Salem State on the Seahawks' new home turf), we need to finish our scoring chances."

Bison goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand [Plymouth, Mass.] stopped all 13 shots she faced in recording the team's second shutout of the year.

Salve Regina (2-3; 0-1 TCCC) plays at Simmons College on Thursday (7 p.m.); Nichols (4-0; 1-0 TCCC) hosts Mt. Holyoke at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
