Seahawks celebrate Senior Day with record-setting first-half; defeat Privateers, 49-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University football scored a program record 49 first-half points en route to a 49-0 win over visiting Privateers of SUNY Maritime College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Toppa Field in Newport, Rhode Island. The Seahawks (7-2, 5-1 NEWMAC) celebrated Senior Day before the contest - (22) Joshua Adams, Francisco Aguero, Avery Arno, Sam Capodice, Garrett DeForest, Jacob Dubois, Griffin Gallati, Matt Heverin, Ryan Janz, Drew Keiran, Matthew Lavoie, Zachary Ludemann, Luke Maruca, Michael Morin, Sean Pampin, Jack Patalano, Jacob Perez, Joe Saccone, Jeff Seganos Jr., Cain Smith, Christopher Tall, Jack Zingaro.

Justan Luzzi and Thomas Cea Jr. both had a pair of rushing touchdowns while quarterback Jake Stack completed a pair of touchdown passes to Josh Letellier and Marcelino La Bella, respectively. Stack connected on 10-of-14 passing for 147 yards in just first-half action. Special teams got in on the scoring as senior Garrett DeForest blocked a Privateer punt and scooped up the loose ball for a 12-yard scamper to the endzone.

After allowing double-digit points the last two weekends, the Seahawks recorded their third shutout of the season. Maritime (N.Y.) (5-4, 3-3 NEWMAC) managed 162 total yards and just 20 net yards rushing. Salve Regina had nine tackles for losses including five sacks.

NOTEWORTHY:

• Freshman kicker Vaughn Randle made all seven of his PAT tries.
• Nine different Seahawks combined for 193 rushing yards led by 65 from Justan Luzzi.
• Thomas Cea Jr.'s 25-yard TD run was the longest from scrimmage.
• Josh Letellier and Kyle Crampton both finished with four receptions apiece.
• Today marked the 24th time Salve Regina football has scored 49 or more points. Five of those times have been shutouts with the first in 1993 against Gallaudet (56-0).
• Seahawks have shutout three opponents in a season for the first time in 26 years.
• In blanking Nichols, Maine Maritime, Assumption in 1997, the Seahawks had 54 points in those three wins; while shutting out Curry, Framingham State, Maritime (N.Y.) this year, Salve Regina has totaled 126 points.
• 49 points in single half is a program record for the Seahawks.
