NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University football team outgained the visiting University of Rochester, 366 yards total offense to 290 yards, but the Yellowjackets followed a missed go-ahead field goal by the Seahawks with the game-winning drive culminating in a Trey Johnson 22 yard pass from Ryan Rose for a 17-10 final at Toppa Field on Saturday afternoon. Salve Regina (2-1) had leads of 3-0 and 10-7 before a last-second field goal by Jordan Laudani knotted the game at the half. A scoreless second half seemed destined for overtime at Toppa Field. After an Alex Wing punt pinned the Seahawks at their own 1-yard line, Jake Stack and Justan Luzzi collaborated on runs to reach the visitor's 26-yard line facing 4th-and-11. Stack hit John Hannon for a 13-yard play and a seven-yard pass to Josh Letellier put the Seahawks inside the 10. The longest drive of the game (8:19) came down to a 25-yard field goal attempt after a Rochester timeout with 1:21 left in the game.

A pass interference penalty followed by a Ryan Rose pass complete to Aidan Papantoni for 18 yards put the Yellowjackets on the Seahawk side of the field. After two incompletes, a screen pass to Aidan Papantoni resulted in a 25-yard gain to the Salve Regina 22-yard line. Johnson caught the Rose TD pass in the left corner of the endzone for the first score of the last 30 minutes.

POSTGAME THOUGHTS FROM COACH GILMARTIN

"Well, it's a tough game. I thought we should have had more points on the board, we left a lot of points off the board. A bunch of times we were in the red zone and if we execute on those we should get some touchdowns, but we had holding penalties push us back. We knew it was going to be a good game because they're a good team. Talking with the officials about the potential for overtime and taking into account the wind factor with today's weather. They (Rochester) wanted to slow it down and make it a low-scoring game; they were able to get the score at the end and we weren't able to finish." -- Seahawk head coach Kevin Gilmartin, during post game interview with Bobb Angel and Jim Ascoli on live stream and WADK
