Telford grabs major award and first team as five others make All-CCC

Elian Telford won a major award and six total Seahawks made All-CCC.

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its 2022 Football All-Conference Teams and major award winners Tuesday morning. All seven CCC schools were represented on this year's list. CCC Champion Endicott led the group with 20 student-athletes being recognized.

There were six on-field major awards voted on by the coaches. Taking home the top prizes this year were Husson quarterback Nic Visser (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Endicott's Hector Johnson (Worcester, Mass.) who were named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Johnson was also the Defensive Lineman of the Year. The University of New England's Eric Langland (Southington, Conn.) was the Offensive Lineman of the Year. The top first-year performers this season were Montie Quinn (Goose Creek, S.C.) from Curry and Zayd Sadiq (Amherst, Mass.) from Western New England, who were respectively named Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Three graduating student-athletes were also recognized for their achievements off-the-field in conjunction with their on-field success. First was the Hal Chalmers Award winner, Robert Inniss, Jr. (Windham, Maine) from UNE. The Hal Chalmers Award recognizes a graduating (or exhausted eligibility) CCC student-athlete who possesses a high academic average (based on a 4.0 scale) combined with outstanding football performance.

Two student-athletes were also awarded the Senior Perseverance and Achievement Award, which recognizes student-athletes in their final year of eligibility who have overcome significant challenges in order to play collegiate football. This year's honorees were Elian Telford (Phillipsburg, N.J.) and Ippokratis Georgiadis (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

Endicott head coach Paul McGonagle was named the 2022 Coach of the Year and Western New England won the Team Sportsmanship award.

Salve Regina's Elian Telford also took home a spot on the first team joined by Max DeVito, Nicholas Lane, and Zachary Ludemann, while Joey Mauriello and Brian Johnson were named second team All-CCC.

Elian Telford - Senior Perseverence and Achievement Award/1st team All-CCC

Telford finding himself on the Salve Regina football team was quite an accomplishment. He emigrated to the United States as a young man after being born in Guyana. He excelled not only on the football field, but also in the classroom. He is the first member of his family to go to college and will not only graduate, but also go on to pursue and MBA. Telford had a 3.49 GPA last semester.

"This is a tremendous honor for Elian," said head coach Kevin Gilamrtin. "We know who Elian is on the field and I'm thrilled to see his accomplishments off the field recognized as well. What a great way to cap an incredible career in Newport!"

Max DeVito - 1st team Wide Receiver

Devito caught 33 passes for 585 and five touchdowns, leading the Seahawks with 90.8 yards per game. This is is second All-CCC squad.

Brian Johnson - 2nd team Punter

Johnson punted 32 times averaging a league best 40.2 yards per punt. This is his first All-CCC squad.

Nicholas Lane - 1st team Fullback

Lane makes his first All-CCC squad a a graduate student who helped lead the way for Salve Regina's backfield.

Zachary Ludemann - 2nd team Linebacker

Ludemann ranked second in the CCC and led the Seahawks in tackles (108) and tackles per game (10.8). He also registered 2.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

Joey Mauriello - 2nd team Running Back

Mauriello became the Seahawks all-time leading rusher this season and finishes his career with 4,275 rushing yards and ranks second all-time in rushing touchdowns (43).

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the seven CCC head football coaches on a conference call following the conclusion of the regular season.
