Six named captains for football

Three returning and three first-time captains to lead Salve Regina in 2022.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University football head coach Kevin Gilmartin has announced Jason Azzolino (Saddle Brook, N.J.), Zack Catarius (Sandwich, Mass.), Jesse Lagrosa (Hillsdale, N.J.), Joey Mauriello (Colts Neck, N.J.), CJ Minchin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) and Elian Telford (Phillipsburg, N.J.) as captains for the 2022 season.

Catarius, Mauriello, and Telford return as captains while Azzolino, Lagrosa, and Minchin each begin their first season as captains.

"To have 43 seniors and graduate students on a team is truly a blessing," said Gilmartin. "Obviously, any one of those men were more than deserving to be a captain.  We had three of the returning graduates who were captains last year and we added three more from this senior class. It is truly a group of players who understand how to lead and the importance of team chemistry and culture.  Each one of them have displayed the positive characteristics that make the Salve Football program a true joy to be a part of." 

The Seahawks are scheduled to start their 2022 campaign at home versus Norwich on September 3 at 12 p.m.
