NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior Mike Nestor (Danvers, Mass.) caught two touchdowns to help lead his football team to a 34-13 victory over visiting Curry College on Senior Day at Toppa Field in Commonwealth Coast Football Conference (CCFC) action.

The Seahawks held the Colonels to just 2.3 yards per rush, forcing the visitors to pass the ball against their ball-hawking defense which came up with two interceptions, two sacks, and seven pass breakups.

Turning Point
The Seahawks took at 10-0 lead thanks to a first quarter touchdown run from Welsh and an Angelo DiSanto (North Reading, Mass.) 42-yard field goal. The Colonels responded with an 11-play, 62-yard drive, capped by a Gabriel Desouza (North Andover, Mass.) touchdown catch. The Colonels lined up to kick the PAT to draw within a field goal, but the kick was blocked and returned by Matt Sylvia (East Greenwich, R.I.) for two points to instead put the Seahawks up 12-6. The Seahawks scored on the ensuing drive on a 15-yard pass from Jake Kelleher (Hopkinton, Mass.) to Mike Nestor to go up 20-6 and take complete control of the game.

  • Tyler McGovern (Attleboro, Mass.) finished 16-for-27 with 218 yards and a touchdown while Keller totalled 34 yards and a score on 3-for-5 passing.
