Matt D'Amato - NEWMAC Athlete of the Week // April 22-28

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending April 28, 2024, and Salve Regina University graduate student Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) has been selected as the Athlete of the Week for baseball.

D'Amato climbed the ranks of the record books at Salve Regina and kicked off the 5-0 week for No. 7 Salve Regina with a walk-off home run. His dozen hits (12-for-21; .571) included a pair of doubles and vaulted him from eighth all-time to tied for fifth, while surpassing the 200-hit milestone. D'Amato scored 12 runs in five games including three with three runs each. His nine RBI featured the bottom of the 11th walk-off home run in Tuesday's win over Johnson & Wales. D'Amato was on base over 75 percent of the week (.762) with three walks, a hit by pitch, and stole three bags.

"Matt has been our most consistent hitter all season and it shows with his production and ability to get big hits for us," said Seahawk head coach Eric Cirella '05. "Nothing was bigger than his walkoff home run on Tuesday and he continued on a tear for the next four games - including number 200 of his career. I'm just proud of how far he's come as a hitter and excited to watch him play in big games down the stretch. He deserves all the recognition he will get and more."

Salve Regina (29-5, 12-2 NEWMAC) hosts Roger Williams University in non-league action on Tuesday at Reynolds Field (3 p.m.).
