Week at a Glance: Seahawks ? February 14-20, 2022

NEWPORT, R.I. (February 14, 2022) - Have a heart! Seahawks celebrate Valentine's Day with three matchups against the Colonels on Monday, including men's ice hockey hosting Curry College and former Seahawk Danny Eruzione in a matinee (1 p.m.).

Spectators are allowed as of February 1; however, no food or drink, and all guests must wear face coverings properly.

MONDAY (Feb. 14)
Salve Regina men's ice hockey (15-5-2, 13-3-2 CCC) continues to add votes in the USCHO.com national rankings, nearly cracking the Top 15 among NCAA Divison III programs. The Seahawks improved to 10-2-1 on the road when they dominated Western New England University on Saturday night in Springfield, 13-3. Mitch Walinski scored four times, tying a program record, as the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team set a new program record for total goals in a game. Salve Regina hosts Curry (1 p.m.) Monday at St. George's where the Seahawks are 5-3-1. Salve Regina has defeated Curry twice this season and shoots for the series sweep when former Seahawk Danny Eruzione brings his Colonels' mates to town.

Salve Regina women's basketball (9-12, 8-7 CCC) aims to snap a four-game skid when it travels to Milton, Massachusetts, on Monday for a matchup with the Colonels. The last time Salve Regina played Curry (December 3, 2021), it ended a four-game skid in the all-time series with a 68-58 win at Rodgers Recreation CenterBriana Neary came off the bench and led all players with her career-high 28 points in the Seahawk win two months ago. Salve Regina owns a 51-23 mark in the all-time series.

Salve Regina women's ice hockey (4-12-3, 3-8-3 CCC) looks for its first win since January 25 when the Seahawks bested the Colonels, 5-4, at the Canton Ice House. Maddie Cox and Colby Lopez-Balboa scored in the third period for Salve Regina University while netminder Madison Jalbert made all four of her saves as the Seahawks earned the comeback victory over host the Curry College Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. A 1-1 tie on Super Bowl Sunday against Western New England started a three-games-in-three-days stretch for the Seahawks.

TUESDAY (Feb. 15)
Salve Regina women's ice hockey skates for the third straight day against a conference opponent. Suffolk University returns to St. George's for its third meeting with Salve Regina this month. The Rams scored three first period goals and held on for a 3-1 win on February 6. 

WEDNESDAY (Feb. 16)
Senior Night for Salve Regina women's basketball (5:30 p.m.) and men's basketball (7:30 p.m.) gives both programs an opportunity to recognize Dani OddoChris PeasleyMikey SpencerCameron CollinsKevin Kelly, and senior members of the cheerleading squad - Kiara Son-Has and Brittany Bailey.

Seahawk men's basketball has clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs which means tournament action at the Rodgers Recreation Center. Let's pack the nest!

FRIDAY (Feb. 18)
Salve Regina men's ice hockey skates at No. 11 University of New England (7 p.m.) at the Alfond Arena. The Seahawks bested the No'easters in Biddeford, 8-6, on January 31George Sennott put in a shorthanded goal on a pass that took a friendly bounce off the boards and found Billy Girard IV out of the crease to tie the game with 7:19 remaining. Mitch Walinski, who continues to lead the CCC in scoring, blasted one for the left circle for his second of the period to put the Seahawks in front for good at the 5:36 mark. Cayden Kraus added an empty net tally in the final minute.

Senior Night for Salve Regina women's ice hockey allows the Seahawks to recognize Carley Bauckham, Paige Stapleton, Kimberly Dunn, Madison Jalbert, Cassidy Lariviere, Colby Lopez-Balboa, Dakota McMahon, Brynn Mendes, Celia Palzkill when they host the University of New England (8 p.m.) at St. George's.

SATURDAY (Feb. 19)
Salve Regina women's basketball (1 p.m.) and men's basketball (3 p.m.) play at Gordon College in the final regular season games before the postseason begins ... on Monday. With all 10 schools in the CCC qualifying for the tournament, the No. 7 and No. 8 teams will host first-round action on Monday. Salve Regina men's basketball has already clinched at least the No. 2 overall seed to give the team at least one more game in front of the Seahawk faithful.

It's another quick turnaround as the Seahawk women's ice hockey team heads up to Beverly, Massachusetts, for a 3 p.m. face-off with No. 9 Endicott College.

Seahawk men's ice hockey (8 p.m.) will celebrate seniors - Brandon Borges, Nicholas Latinovich, John McLean, Tyler Carangelo, Ethan DeStefani, Sage Englund, George Sennott - while hosting No. 15 Endicott College in the regular season finale.

Onto the winter postseason next week and, oh yes, the spring season opens!
