LET'S GO, SEAHAWKS!

MONDAY (Jan. 31)
Salve Regina women's basketball (7-8, 6-3 CCC) tips off at 5:30 p.m. at the Rodgers Recreation Center hosting Wentworth Institute of Technology less than a week after defeating the Leopards in Boston, Mass., 57-50. Briana Neary and Morgan Shuey both scored 16 points in the Seahawk win. Neary also had a career-high 18 rebounds. The Seahawks are 54-7 in the all-time series with the Leopards, and seek their 12th straight victory in Monday's meeting.

Salve Regina men's ice hockey (12-5-0, 10-3-0 CCC) split a pair of games against nationally-ranked teams (#12, #10 - https://www.uscho.com/rankings/d-iii-mens-poll/2022-01-24/) last week, and this week's schedule features much of the same competition. The Seahawks, very familiar with national rankings, fell below .500 in its all-time series with the 12th-ranked University of New England after dropping a 3-2 decision at home last Monday. The Seahawks scored two goals once again (both by George Sennott) in their matchup at #10 Curry College on Friday, but the difference was Nicholas Latinovich making 36 saves while posting a shutout between the pipes for a 2-0 win over the Colonels. Salve Regina faces off with the Nor'easters (after Saturday's Nor'easter forced a postponement of their rematch with Curry) on Monday at 6 p.m.

Salve Regina men's basketball (14-4, 9-2 CCC) won twice last week for five in a row and seven out of eight times this month, and 10 out of its last 11 games. Wins at Wentworth (69-56) and home against University of New England (78-57) featured leading scorer Mikey Spencer averaging 26.5 points per game while shooting over 54 percent from the floor. The matchup with the Nor'easters came a day earlier at the Rodgers Recreation Center due to the predictions of a real snowstorm hitting the northeast area. The win put the Seahawks in sole possession of first place in the conference. The Seahawks meet the Leopards for the second time in seven days with a 7:30 p.m. tip off at home.

Salve Regina women's ice hockey (4-9-1, 3-5-1 CCC) had an old-fashioned shootout in its first of three scheduled matches with Curry College last Tuesday at the Canton Ice Arena, winning 5-4. The Seahawks rallied from a 3-1 deficit and blanked the Colonels in the final period while scoring twice for the conference victory. Five different goal scorers included Paige StapletonEmma GotthelfCaroline CadelinaMaddie Cox, and Colby Lopez-BalboaMadison Jalbert made 15 saves in the win. Both games scheduled for last weekend were postponed because of the snow, and the Seahawks-Colonels will get together on the St. George's ice with an 8:30 p.m. puck drop.

WEDNESDAY (Feb. 2)
Salve Regina women's basketball starts a two-game road trip to face the Bison of Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. (5:30 p.m.) The Seahawks scored a season-high in their 80-73 win against Nichols in Newport in December. Meghan Henaghan and Ashley Rourke scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, in the earlier meeting against the Bison as Salve Regina improved to 41-11 all-time against the Bison.

After losing its conference opener to Nichols College on the first of December, Salve Regina men's basketball won 10 of its next 11 games and jumped into first place in the CCC. The Bison now are in second place in the CCC when they host the Seahawks (7:30 p.m.), and ride a streak of 15 wins in their last 16 meetings (31-26 overall) in the all-time series.

FRIDAY (Feb. 4)
The battle with the Bison continues as Salve Regina women's ice hockey skates against Nichols College (4:40 p.m.) at the June Rockwell Levy Rink in Burrillville, R.I. The teams split in their home-away series in November (both winning on home ice) as the Seahawks carry a 20-6-3 mark in the all-time series.

Seahawk men's ice hockey welcomes the Bison to St. George's (8 p.m.) after winning eight of the last nine meetings, and 10 of the last 12, to even the all-time series at 22-22-4. George Sennott had two goals in a 4-3 win at Levy Rink in November, and then the game-winner in overtime (3-2) the next night at home with Nicholas Latinovich making 37 saves.

SATURDAY (Feb. 5)
Salve Regina women's basketball (1 p.m.), men's basketball (3 p.m.), and men's ice hockey (7 p.m.) all play in Boston, Mass., today against the Suffolk University Rams. Andrew Richards had a game-winning layup in the closing seconds for Seahawk hoops against the Rams, 65-64, at the Rodgers Recreation Center on January 19.

SUNDAY (Feb. 6)
Salve Regina women's ice hockey takes the ice for a 1 p.m. face-off with Suffolk University in the first-ever (of three this month) meeting between the two programs.
