Seahawks split matches at RIC tourney

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team swept a tri-match with Salve Regina University and Framingham State at the Murray Center on Saturday. RIC defeated Salve Regina, 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23), and Framingham State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-9). In the other match of the day, Salve Regina defeated Framingham State 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-16).

HOW IT HAPPENED

RIC vs. Salve Regina

•  In the win over Salve Regina, junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) recorded a double-double with a match-best 22 kills and 12 digs for the Anchorwomen.

• Senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) tallied 20 kills, eight digs and five service aces.

• RIC senior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) registered 40 set assists and tied a match-high with 13 digs. Sophomore right side hitter Jacqueline Jutras (Foster, RI) notched nine kills, 11 set assists and five digs.

• Salve Regina was paced by sophomore middle blocker Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, MA) with 14 dills and five blocks.

• Senior setter Samantha Salwa (Ellington, CT) had 28 set assists and eight digs.

 

Salve Regina vs. Framingham State

•  Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Seahawks with 12 kills and five blocks.

•  Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) notched a season-high 30 assists.

•  Sydney Puffer (kittery, Maine) and freshman Andee Bender (Lebanon, Conn.) had 15 and 12 digs respectively to lead the Seahawks defense.

  

BY THE NUMBERS

RIC vs. Salve Regina

• RIC had a .209 (61 kills, 30 errors, 148 attempts) hitting percentage, while Salve Regina hit .202 (42 kills, 17 errors, 124 attempts).

• The Anchorwomen had 13 service aces compared to seven for the Seahawks.

RIC vs. Framingham State

• RIC had a .333 (38 kills, 17 errors, 104 attempts) hitting percentage, while Framingham State hit -.056 (18 kills, 24 errors, 107 attempts).

• The Anchorwomen had 55 digs with Framingham State notching 46 digs.
