Summary
The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team swept Curry College (25-18,25-17, 25-17) Wednesday on senior night for the Seahawks lone senior, Kat Mendes (New Bedford, Mass.) who was joined by her family for a special pregame ceremony.

Series and Streaks
This was the sixth meeting between the Seahawks and Colonels. Salve Regina has won every meeting, owning a 6-0 record all-time. 

Three Stars of the Match
1 – Salve Regina sophomore Cassidy Trablicy (Phoenix, Ariz.) - had a match-high 15 kills to go with four digs, two aces, an assist and a block.
2 – Salve Regina junior Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) had a match-high 35 assists along with seven digs, two aces, and a kill.
3 – Salve Regina sophomore Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) - had a match-high 18 digs as well as an ace and an assist.

Turning Point
The Seahawks had held comfortable leads in the first two sets to lead 2-0 in the match, but the third set was neck and neck, knotted 14-14 before a kill from Caroline Kilduff (Rockand, Mass.) gave the colonels a 15-14 lead prompting a timeout from Salve Regina. It was the latest into any set that the Colonels had a lead. After the stoppage the Seahawks tied the game on a kill from Samantha Higgins (Coventry, R.I.) followed by three straight errors from the Colonels. An ace from Higgins and kill from Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) gave the Seahawks a 20-15 lead, and control of the set. Overall the colonels committed five errors down the stretch as the Seahawks closed the third on an 11-2 run to complete the sweep.

Quick Hits

  • This was the sixth sweep of the all-time series as the Colonels have yet to win a set against the Seahawks.
  • Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) paced the Colonels with 10 kills, while Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) totaled 27 assists, and Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the team with 11 digs.
  • Higgins had three blocks, two solo, for the Seahawks while Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) added three as well, one solo.
