Summary
The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team dropped its home opener 3-0 to Connecticut College in a tightly contested non-conference match. The Seahawks were close in every set, and lead late in both the second and third sets, but could not close out the Camels in the sweep.

Series and Streaks
The Camels now own a 9-0 record all time against the Seahawks. It is the eighth sweep of the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Match
1 – Connecticut Col. senior Alex Mcdevitt (Medfield, Mass.) - notched a match-high 12 kills to go along with three aces, 12 digs, and an assist. 
2 – Connecticut Col. junior Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) - had 10 kills, two assists, two aces, and a match-high 19 digs.
3 – Salve Regina junior Samantha Higgins (Coventry, R.I.) - had three kills, an assist, five digs, and an match-high six blocks. She was the leading point getter for the Seahawks.

Turning Point
The Seahawks held a 21-20 lead in the second set but three straight errors by the Seahawks gave the Camels a 23-21 lead, forcing a Salve Regina timeout. A kill from Sam Hunter  gave the Camels set point, but Kat Mendes (New Bedford, Mass.) answered for Salve Regina to keep the Seahawks alive. Hunter would convert again however on the next play to close out the set and give the Camels a two sets to none lead in the match.

Quick Hits

  • Primary setter Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) recorded a match-high 23 assists for Salve Regina while the Camels primary setter Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) totaled 18 helpers.
  • Defensive specialists Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) and Morgan VanderBaan (Douglas, Mass.) each led the Seahawks with 14 digs.
  • Tonight's victory for Connecticut College is the 250th of Josh Edmed's coaching career.
