NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) led all players with 16 kills as the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team defeated Clark University in straight sets (25-14, 25-23, 25-15) at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Thursday night. The victory marked the fourth straight win for the Seahawks who improve to 6-5 on the year, while the Cougars slip to an even 5-5 overall.

Adams had her best match of the young season, adding 10 digs and a pair of aces to her 16 kills, while committing just two attack errors on 37 attempts. Sophomore Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) recorded a game-high 29 assists to go along with 14 digs, while senior Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with 22 digs on the night. Sophomore Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) also had a solid night for Salve Regina, compiling 10 kills in the victory.

The Cougars were paced by freshman Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquergue, N.M.), who had a team-high 10 kills while also adding nine digs. Junior Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) dished-out a team-best 21 assists, while sophomore Kaitlyn Stuck (Bourne, Mass.) led the Cougars with 18 digs.

The Seahawks were clinging to an 11-8 advantage mid way through the opening set when they rallied to go on an 11-3 run, opening up a 22-11 advantage. The Seahawks went on to take the set by a score of 25-14.

In the middle frame, the Seahawks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead by capitalizing on some miscues by the Cougars. However, Clark managed to bounce back, eventually tying the score at 19-all before grabbing the lead on a block by sophomore Savonnah Rowe (New York, N.Y.), 20-19. With the score tied at 23-all, the Seahawks regained the lead on a Clark attack error and then received a clutch ace by senior Sarah Showalter (East Lyme, Conn.) to seal the frame, 25-23.

The Seahawks carried their momentum over into the final set, racing out to a 14-3 advantage and never looking back, eventually earning the frame by a score of 25-15 while cementing the 3-0 match victory in the process.

The Cougars will return to the court on Tuesday, traveling to face Springfield at 7 p.m., while the Seahawks host a tri-match with Wheaton and Lesley this Saturday starting at noon.
