Seahawks earn split at RIAIAW Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University, 3-0, before falling to Roger Williams University by a score of 3-1 in the championship match of the Rhode Island Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) Tournament on Sunday. With the split, the Seahawks are now 11-7 overall on the season.

In the opener, Salve Regina swept the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales by the score of 3-0 to advance to the chamiponship match versus Roger Williams. However, the Seahawks then dropped a 3-1 decision to Roger Williams by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-17.

In the final match, Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) led the Seahawks with ten kills. Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) finished 33 assists and 13 digs, while Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and Jill Diffendaffer (Centennial, Colo.) each added eight kills. Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 24 digs as well.

Torpey led the Hawks with 18 kills in the match to go along with 16 digs. Lebowitz had solid all-around match with 46 assists, nine digs, and five kills. Luczynski added 14 kills and two block assists. Loche added 26 digs, while Emily Werth (Cheshire, Conn.) contributed 13 digs.

The Seahawks will play again on Tuesday (7 p.m.) when they host Emerson at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
