Seahawks sweep Lions in straight sets, improve to 5-0 in CCC

QUINCY, Mass. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team defeated Eastern Nazarene College in straight sets during a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Tuesday night.  The Seahawks, who sit atop the CCC leaderboard, took the won the three sets (by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-23. With the win, Salve Regina improves to an impressive 5-0 in CCC play, and 9-6 overall. Eastern Nazarene drops to 7-10 on the season and 1-4 in conference play with the loss.

In the opening set, the two teams battled back and forth until the fifteenth point, when Salve Regina took control by capitalizing on several unforced errors by the Lions. The Seahawks finished the set with a big assisted block by sophomores Jill Diffendaffer (Centennial, Colo.) and Clare Adams (Concord, Ohio) to take the match 25-17.

Salve Regina began the second set aggressively, taking an early 6-1 lead. ENC rallied to pull within three at 6-9 but a dominant performance by SRU senior Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) proved too much, and the Lions dropped set two, 25-14.

The third set began with more of the same, as the first place Seahawks came out of the gate strong to gain a 14-5 advantage over the Lions. Eastern Nazarene fought back, scoring five straight points to make it 10-15, in a skillful offensive run. ENC limited errors to get within three at 12-15. Refusing to let up, the Lions bttled to stay within two points of the Seahawks the rest of the way, but Salve Regina eventually held on for the 25-23 win.
 
SRU freshman setter Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) led all players with 26 assists on the night. Barry tallied eight kills, followed by teammate Adams with seven. Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) racked up eleven digs for the Seahawks. 

Kori Sorensen recorded a match-high twelve digs for the Lions. Eastern Nazarene setter Birdina Tuiava played a well-rounded game, contributing eight digs and 18 assists. Clinkscale led the offensive attack for ENC with seven kills. 

The Seahawks head back out on the road to face Lasell on Thursday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene travels to face Rhode Island College on the same day, also at 7:00 p.m.
