Zabel, Barry, Canino named captains for 2010 season
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University volleyball head coach Lindsay Marshall has named senior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) and juniors Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) and Amy Canino (Hebron, Conn.) as team captains for the 2010 season.
Zabel led the Seahawks with 421 assists and 50 service aces (0.52 aces/game) in 2009, the latter ranking her third in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). She also notched 137 digs, 110 kills and 31 blocks (five solo).
Barry, meanwhile, led the team and the conference with 104 total blocks (72 solo) and was second on the team with 225 kills. For her efforts, she was a Second Team All-TCCC selection. Canino, meanwhile, recorded 11 kills, nine assists, eight digs and six blocks (four solo) in 14 matches.
"I'm very excited to have Lisa, JB, and Amy leading the team this year," said Marshall, who begins her first season as head coach after serving as an assistant last season. "As our only senior, Lisa brings a wealth of experience to the team. Amy and JB are very motivated and ready to step up for their team as captains. I am extremely confident that these young women will lead the team to a successful year on and off the court."
The Seahawks open the 2010 season on Sept. 4 when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State to face Babson at 1 p.m.
