Seahawks down Bears in non-conference action, 3-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over host Bridgewater State University on Friday night at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

 

The visiting Seahawks won the first set, 25-16, and then came back from an 18-9 deficit to capture the second set, 25-23. Bridgewater stayed alive with a 25-23 triumph in the third set, but Salve Regina finished off the Bears, 25-18 in set four.

 

Junior middle hitter Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) paced the Seahawks with 13 kills, 10 digs and four blocks (two solo). Freshman setter elsey Stafstrom (Westford, Mass.) added 26 assists, while sophomore libero Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 22 digs.

 

Freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) led Bridgewater State with 40 assists, three kills, two blocks and two aces. Junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) added 16 kills and a solo block, while senior outside hitter Kristina Campbell (Taunton, Mass.) finished with six kills, two blocks and two aces.

 

The Bears (7-9) will host MASCAC foe Salem State University on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM, while Salve Regina (9-12) travels to Regis College for a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
