Salve Regina upends Regis in four sets

WESTON, Mass. - Salve Regina sprinted to an early two-game lead over The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opponent Regis College Tuesday night, before falling to the Pride in game three. After regrouping the Seahawks barely won game four to beat Regis College 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 14-25, 25-22).

With the win Salve Regina improves to 10-12 overall, and 5-3 within TCCC play. The loss drops Regis College to 8-21, and 2-5 in conference play.

Regis College played its first two sets more to the tempo of the Seahawks. As the Salve Regina offense methodically picked apart the Pride defense, Regis fell further behind on the scoreboard.

Salve Regina's Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) had 13 kills for the Seahawks, and a games best .481 attack percentage. She would contribute an equal number of digs for Salve Regina.

Considering the repeated attacks at the Regis defense, freshman libero Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif./Notre Dame) played an amazing match to pick up 29 digs for Regis College. Salve Regina opened both the first and second sets on the attack. With Regis on its heels, the Seahawks Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) delivered a match-high 14 kills.

Regis Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) and Meghan McCarty (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) combined for 21 of the Pride's 31 total kills. Endara had a team-high 13 kills in 60 total attempts.

Salve Regina put down 50 kills in two fewer attempts (162) for a .152 team attack percentage. Salve Regina's Kelsey Stafstrom (Westford, Mass.) and Regis' Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) had 21 and 20 assists respectively. Garrity also had two service aces. Stafstrom added one service ace to her teams seven.

On the front line, Vanessa Noesi (Methuen, Mass./Greater Lawerence Technical) had a game-high three solo blocks, and assisted on three others for Regis College.

Barry had two block solos, and assisted on a block with Adams for Salve Regina. As a team, Salve Regina had three games in which it had double figure kills. The Seahawks had 14, 13, and 15 kills in games one, two, and four. Regis did not break double figures (10) until game three, the game that it defeated Salve Regina.

After tonight's match Salve Regina is tied in three-way tie in fourth place, while Regis College holds the lone eighth spot in conference play.
