Rubenoff, Canaff lead Seahawks past Rams, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) recorded 10 kills and classmate Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) added nine to lead Salve Regina University to a 3-0 win over Framingham State in non-conference volleyball action Wednesday night at Rogers Recreation Center.

 

The Seahawks (2-8) captured game one 25-21, game two 27-25, and three 25-11 to snap an eight-match losing streak. The loss extends the Rams (4-7) losing streak to three matches.

 

The Seahawks posted a .318 hitting percentage in the opening frame behind the strength of seven kills from Rubenoff and five from junior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.). Senior Brittany Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) paced the Seahawks with five kills and game two, and sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) - who finished with two solo blocks - notched a team-high three kills in the third and final set.

 

"This was a consistently well-played match. We maintained a constant level of communication and tenacity," said Salve Regina head coach Jen Maxwell. "Natalie Rubenoff and Brittany Canaff played very well for us. Overall, it was a solid win for us and a well-played match."

 

Barry posted a match-high .538 hitting percentage while Canaff finished with a .438 percentage and Zabel notched a .375 percentage. Sophomore Jessica Meyer (Seymour, Conn.) tallied a match-high 22 assists and freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched 15 digs.

 

Junior Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.) tallied a match-high 12 kills for the Rams while freshman Meaghan Callahan (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded 18 assists and junior Jessi Goode (Marstons Mills, Mass.) had 11 digs.

 

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a tri-match with the Crusaders and Gordon College. The tri-match begins at 11 a.m.
