Salve Regina defeats Lasell, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. - The Salve Regina Seahawks swiped a 3-0 match from the Lasell College Lasers this evening in women's volleyball action at the Lasell Athletic Center. The Seahawks produced the three set victory with scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-17.

Lasell held close with Salve through a 9-9 tie in the first set before the Seahawks pulled ahead 18-11. The Lasers fought back going on an 8-3 run to come within two points at 19-21, but the visitors scored the final four points necessary to end the set number one.

In the second set of the night, Salve Regina came out with force and went ahead seven points before Lasell scored their first point. Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) broke the Seahawks flow with a kill from the middle, which preceded Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) serving four points to bring Lasell back within reach.

However, Salve Regina answered with five-straight points at the hand of senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.), digging the Lasers into a hole they did not retreat from.

The third set was similar to the first as the Lasers stayed within a few points of the Seahawks through the late teens before the visitors ran away with the deciding game.

Salter was the match leader in kills with 10 total and earned the only double-double of the contest with 15 additional digs. Salve Regina freshman libero Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) also produced a team-best 17 digs for the Seahawks on defense.

On Lasell's side of the court, Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) was the match-leader in digs with 19 in the three sets. Drapeau put down seven kills at the net for the Lasers, and Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) attacked for six more. Crozier closed the match with 21 assists.

Lasell hits the road to play at the Union College Tournament this weekend, in Schenectady, N.Y., where it will compete against four strong New York teams beginning on Friday, October 9th. Salve Regina returns to action on Saturday at the R.I.A.I.A.W. Tournament at Rhode Island College.
