Warriors knock off ECSU, 3-1

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshman Ali Facchini (Niantic, Conn.) tallied a match-high 16 kills to lead Eastern Connecticut State to a 3-1 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

 

Sophomore Britt Carrier (Southington, Conn.) and freshman Claudia Radziszewski (East Haddam, Conn.) chipped in with 11 kills each for the Warriors (8-10), who snapped a three-match losing streak. Senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) notched a team-high 12 kills for the Seahawks, who slipped to 5-12.

 

Salter tallied six of her kills and the Seahawks recorded a .273 hitting percentage in game one en route to a 25-23 win. The Warriors bounced back to win the next three matches, 25-12, 25-17, and 25-20.

 

Radziszewski sparked the ECSU comeback with five kills in the second game, and led by five kills from Carrier in the third game, the Warriors went on to record a .483 hitting percentage in game three. Facchini posted five of her 16 kills in the fourth game to seal the win.

 

Freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 15 digs to lead the Seahawks while senior Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) finished with nine kills and three digs. Carrier finished with a match-high 20 digs while sophomore Samantha Slonski (Griswodl, Conn.) had 42 assists.

 

The Seahawks return to action on Monday when they host Newbury at 7 p.m. The Warriors host Western Connecticut State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
