Seahawks travel to Colby-Sawyer for TCCC Quarterfinals

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University volleyball team has earned the No. 6 seed in the 2009 The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament and will travel to New London, N.H. to face No. 3 Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

 

The Seahawks finished the regular season 10-19 overall and an even 5-5 in the conference while the Chargers posted a mark of 18-12 and an 8-2 conference record. The two schools have met 11 previous times with the Chargers capturing all 11 of those matches, including a 3-1 decision this past Saturday in Newport. Colby-Sawyer and Salve Regina have met in the Quarterfinals of TCCC Playoffs in each of the past two seasons, and the Chargers won both of those meetings by identical 3-0 scores.

 

Senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) leads the Seahawks with 227 kills, followed by sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) with 217. Freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) leads Salve Regina and ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 4.08 digs/game (392 total) while Barry leads the conference in blocks with 103 (71 solo). Junior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.), meanwhile, ranks fourth in TCCC with an average of 0.54 service aces/game (50 total).

 

Colby-Sawyer is led by Michelle Doody, who leads the Chargers with 392 kills. Genny Moore boasts a team-high 994 assists, Stef Turner leads with 78 blocks (21 solo), and Mickey Lapan holds the team lead in digs with 427.

 

In other quarterfinal matches, No. 1 Endicott hosts No. 8 Regis, No. 2 Western New England hosts No. 7 Gordon, and No. 4 Roger Williams hosts No. 5 University of New England. All three matches begin at 7 p.m.
