Godshalk, Stangel win at No. 3 doubles; Harvey claims victory at No. 1 singles

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's tennis seniors Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.), Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.), and Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) competed in their final regular-season home fall match. The Johnson & Wales University women's tennis team continued to build momentum going into next week's conference tournament. The Wildcats went on the road Sunday to defeat Salve Regina, 7-2.

Johnson & Wales improved to 10-4 with the victory while the Seahawks dropped to 5-6.

Godshalk paired with sophomore Erin Stangel (Old Saybrook, Conn.) for a 9-7 victory at third doubles. The Wildcats came out of doubles with a 2-1 advantage. Lauren Torre and Katherine Ledesma prevailed 8-3 at number two. Claire Parry and Drew Bobey followed at number one with an 8-5 triumph.

After dropping her first set, Salve Regina freshman Lauren Harvey (Edmond, Okla.) outlasted Parry at first singles with her 10-6 score in a third-set tiebreak. Bobey was the first JWU player to win their singles bout as she topped Laura Krick, 6-1, 6-4, at number four. Then it was Ledesma at number six with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Shealyn FitzPatrick. Wrapping up the team triumph was Kourtney Moore as she won 6-2, 6-2 at number three.

Johnson & Wales now turns its attention to the GNAC quarterfinals where it will host Simmons at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Rhode Island College. The Seahawks will resume their schedule in the spring.
