Pride doubles up Seahawks, 6-3

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.) and freshman Laura Krick (Groton, Conn.) worked an 8-4 victory at second doubles, but visiting Regis College triumphed at Nos. 1 and 3 before taking the top four singles flights for a 6-3 win in non-conference women's tennis action in Newport.

The Pride improved to 11-6 on the year while the Seahawks fell to 2-11 overall.

Salve Regina had singles wins from two first-year players - Claire Wulfman (Ripton, Vt.) and Annemarie Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) - at fifth and sixth, respectively.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks lead the all-time series, 22-2, after winning the first 23 meetings, including three classic battles in 2004. Regis, a former member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), built its strongest team in history when Salve Regina visited Weston, Mass., on September 14, 2004. The match was even at 4-4, with No. 1 singles continuing into darkness with a third set. After suspending the match, Regis visited Salve Regina 11 days later for the annual Women's Grass Court Doubles Championships at the Tennis Hall of Fame. Salve Regina's Michelle Kennedy outlasted Regis' Aurore Lormeus, 17-15, in a third-set tiebreak. Kennedy's win clinched the match for Salve Regina, which went on to its second consecutive CCC championship final, and met Regis on these same courts in that title match on October 23, 2004. Senior Lisa Buro battled three sets to clinch a victory at sixth singles and clinch the championship for the Seahawks, 5-4. In eight subsequent meetings, Salve Regina won all of them, the overall score in matches had been 59-4. In 2016, Regis won its first in the series, 8-1.
