COLCHESTER, Vt. - Salve Regina claimed its win at No. 3 singles with sophomore Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass.) besting Jean-Marie McGrath (Niwot, Colo.) in straight sets.

Erica Shay battled long for a first-set lead, 5-4, and earned the victory at No. 6 singles when her opponent retired due to fatigue.

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Freshman Erica Shay (Concord, Mass.) earned the lone victory for Salve Regina University women's tennis as the Seahawks fell to Babson College, 8-1, in Wellesley, Mass.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Erica Shay (Concord, Mass.) rallied in both of her matches for Salve Regina University women's tennis today, but Springfield College posted wins in all nine matches in a non-league meeting.

NORTON, Mass. - After the tease of 70 degree weather late last week, the real "spring" returned to New England and forced the Wheaton Invitational Women's Tennis Tournament indoors at the Beard Field House on the Lyons' campus.

Salve Regina finished its fall season with a 5-1 loss against top-seeded Nichols in the CCC semifinals at Pomfret, Conn. The Seahawks were 6-1 in home matches this fall and 8-5 overall. Salve Regina will resume its season with indoor practice at the Newport Casino in February 2012. POMFRET, Conn. - Rainy weather forced the Salve Regina v. Nichols women's tennis semifinal match indoors so the teams competed for a berth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships final at the Pomfret School indoor tennis facility.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Tuning up for its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinal date with top-seeded Nichols College on Wednesday, the Salve Regina University women's tennis team competed at the New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) at Smith College on October 14-15.

NEWPORT, R.I. - After winning in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Championships quarterfinal round on Tuesday, Salve Regina University learned it had three players earn all-conference accolades in voting by the league's coaches as announced by commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sophomore Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass.) has a habit that's tough to break. Getting behind early in matches seems to be a favorite thing to do. When she lost the first eight games in her No. 3 singles match today against Curry College's Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.), one might think Gwozdz had the match just where she wanted it.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Shannon O'Brien clinched the team decision with a 6-2,6-2 win at fourth singles as Salve Regina University women's tennis defeated visiting Western New England, 5-4, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match. O'Brien had earlier paired with her senior teammate Nichol Stevens, a co-captain, for a crucial point with an 8-4 score at second doubles.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Salve Regina University women's tennis led 4-1 after the first two completed singles matches went in its favor, but UMass Dartmouth rallied for a 5-4 victory in the non-league meeting on the Corsairs home courts.

Nichol Stevens '12 improved to 5-4 on the season at first singles with a 6-0,6-1 decision on Monday.
