NEWPORT, R.I. (December 16, 2020) -- Salve Regina University sophomore goalkeeper for women's soccer, Jenna Park (Barrington, R.I.), has set and then raised her goal for raising money to buy care packages for the homeless community of her home state. Having lived in Rhode Island her entire life, and keeping in mind the difficulties of COVID-19 and its impact on the homeless community, Park thought what better time than now to give back.

"I wanted to try and get the Salve community involved because of our ties to Rhode Island, our celebrated mission of Mercy, and our history of giving back to the community. Being virtual presents its obstacles in reaching the entire community, and my social media only covers a minute fraction of Salve Regina," Park says in her efforts to reach a greater population.

Park established a GoFundMe.com page [https://bit.ly/holiday-care-drive] to raise funds to buy basic essentials for the homeless people of The Ocean State, which she hopes to distribute to various shelters such as CrossroadsRI.

"I had a previous goal of getting $250 by December 28, 2020, but I almost reached that goal within the first 12 hours and wanted to see just how much money we could raise towards the various shelters in Rhode Island!"

Park hopes to make packages consisting of basic items like:

  • Bar soap
  • Razors
  • Lotion
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Deodorant
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Feminine care items
  • Hairbrushes and combs
  • Travel-sized items

"Every little donation will help towards the cost of making up these packages so please give whatever you can afford! Even $5 can go a long way."

What They're Saying:

"I am very proud of Jenna and her efforts to raise money for the homeless community in Rhode Island.  This is the time of year when most people stop and rest, but Jenna decided to work to help other people instead.  I think this speaks to her drive, creative thinking, and compassionate approach to life.  She truly is one of a kind!"
