KEENE N.H. (October 2, 2019) -- Carah Cote and Molly Breslin scored second-half goals to lead Salve Regina University over Keene State College, 2-1, in non-league women's soccer action. The Keene State Owls women's soccer team picked up the first goal of the game, but gave up the next two, falling for the third consecutive contest by a score of 2-1.

Records:

  • Keene State: 3-6-0 (1-1-0 LEC)
  • Salve Regina: 7-4-0 (2-0-0 CCC)

How it Happened:

It didn't take long for the Owls to get their offense behind them and send the ball into the offensive zone. Keene State registered the first eight shots towards the net. The Owls held much of the attack on the offensive end when they put up the first goal of the contest. Maggie Vogt took a free kick in the late stages of the first half and was able to find goal on the kick. Vogt sent a ball from deep outside the box and sent it into the bottom right corner of the net, giving the Owls their first lead of the game. It is the first lead the Owls have had in a game since their conference victory against Rhode Island College.

In total, the Owls tallied 12 shots in the first half, compared to the Seahawks two. Goalkeeper Jenna Park was kept busy in the first half for Salve Regina, making two saves in the half, but facing much more. Starting keeper for the Owls Shelby Offord turned away the only shot on goal she faced in the first half.

Salve Regina picked up the first of their two goals in the second half in the 58th minute when Carah Cote picked up her fifth goal of the season. Cote received a pass from her teammate, Amanda Bentz at the top of the box and was able to slice the ball into the bottom ride side of the net, tying the game for the Seahawks at one.  Keene State would continue with their torrid pace of shots but in that time Jenna Park stood tall for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks would tally their second goal in the 67th minute of the second half on an unassisted goal by Molly Breslin. Breslin collected a loose ball in front of the net off of a save by Owls GK Shelby Offord and netted the ball into the cage, giving Salve Regina the 2-1 lead.

KSC would keep the offensive pressure on, now being down by one but their efforts fell just short, falling to the Seahawks for just the second time in program history in six meetings, 2-1.

Inside the Box:

  • The Seahawks saw yet another great performance by their goalkeeper Jenna Park as she was able to turn away five shots out of five in the second half and seven total in the contest, picking up the win.
  • KSC continues outshoot their opponents, this time out shooting Salve Regina 22-7 in total.
  • Keene's Amanda Marshall had the high in shots for the Owls putting up five total, with one on goal. Salve Regina got their high in shots from one of their goal scorers, Carah Cote who put up two on goal and one that found the back of the net.

Up Next:

  • The Keene State Owls will return home to take on LEC opponent, the Western Connecticut State Colonials at Dr. Ron Butcher Field Saturday October 5 at 2:00 pm.
  • Salve Regina returns home to host Roger Williams in non- conference play at 3:00 pm on October 5.
